The Extraction Process

Our goal is to make you as comfortable as possible. We’ll use a local anesthetic to numb the area before gently removing your tooth. We may recommend oral sedation or general anesthesia at the oral surgeon’s office for complicated cases.

After numbness sets in, our dentist will section or elevate the tooth from its socket using dental instruments. Any bone spurs will also be smoothed. The area will be examined to ensure complete removal. You’ll feel minimal to no pain during the procedure.

Post-operative Care

Our dentist at Shelburne Downtown Dental will give you detailed post-op instructions. It’s normal to experience some pain, swelling and bleeding afterwards. Take the prescribed medications and use an ice pack. Avoid strenuous tasks for a few days.

Come back if swelling increases after 2-3 days or you experience excessive bleeding. We’re here to answer any questions as you heal. Your follow-up appointments are important to check on socket healing.
